Come back to the farm where the food is good!

From Wednesday to Sunday we open the relaxed farm-style Saint Isidore’s restaurant and cook up a storm of seasonal and creative dishes using our own farm-fresh and local produce.

Back to the farm where the food is good

The Saint Isidore’s Restaurant is at the heart of a new beginning for Kings Grant. It’s where we gravitate to, mostly because it’s what we know and because… there is no denying… ‘the flavour’ of our food is our greatest passion! Expect wholesome, creative and bold flavours at Saint Isidore’s Restaurant with a focus on what’s in season and what can be sourced locally.

It’s also the reason why we are looking to our Trappist past for inspiration and direction. Kings Grant was originally a Trappist monk food supply farm responsible for supplying a bounty of food that would feed up to 200 boys at the neighbouring St Mary’s Seminary.  The Trappist monks were experts at being self-sufficient in the way of food production and as food artisans. They were the masters of all things ‘home-made’ and of ‘farm to fork food.’ And don’t we all know, ‘the best version of food is almost always the ‘home-made’ version.

With ‘flavour’ being our focus, we’re actively taking the steps to do as the Trappist’s did. We’re embracing a culture of self-sufficiency by starting a small-scale farm that will supply Saint Isidore’s Restaurant with our own home-grown organic produce and we’re learning the artisanal ways of food production; how to make the house-made version of the elements on our menu.

Saint Isidore’s Restaurant is set in what was part of the old Trappist Romanesque-style dairy. The mood is relaxed and cosy with rustic farm decor. On cooler days, enjoy a meal next to a log fire and when the sun is shining, take a seat on the coffee deck and look out onto the indigenous gardens.

Our a la carte menu changes with the seasons and it includes vegan and vegetarian options too.

Every Friday and Sunday, we start up the wood fire pizza oven and offer our guests artisan sourdough pizza’s. ‘Take aways’ are available.

Joy

“My love for cooking started at the age of 9 when my mother asked me to bake the queen cakes for a family function in our wood-fire oven. Since then, I knew I would become a chef and I have never looked back.”
