Explore our accommodation set on an old mission farm station

A place for tranquility, nature and contemplation

Kings Grant Country Retreat is a unique guesthouse on a historical farm that was built by Trappist monks over a century ago. The picturesque red brick buildings have been restored and converted into guesthouse accommodation. Kings Grant can sleep up to 28 persons in 14 ensuite units, all varying in size and facilities. The accommodation is simple and spread out over the property with the old maize mill and the St Isidore chapel at the heart of it, surrounded by indigenous gardens and farmlands.

Kings Grant has various accommodation options and facilities to suit different needs and budgets. Accommodation options include Premium and Standard ensuite rooms as well as self-catering units. Short Term fully furnished stays are also available at Kings Grant and at the Saint Isidore Mews, a short distance from Kings Grant Country Retreat.

Only 7 kilometres outside of Ixopo, Kings Grant is KZN’s hidden gem for those seeking an escape from the busyness of life. It’s a place to slow down and take a deep breath – an old and beautiful place with crooked lines, cracks and cobbled paths. There is an authenticity here that comes without trying, a place to simply be and with that, a deep sense of peace and tranquillity.

What you need to know

Reception Hours

Our reception is open from 7am to 6pm. ‘Late check ins’ must be arranged in advance. Please phone reception to arrange a late check in.

Rates

Our rates are based on a ‘per person’ structure. Guests will only be checked in once full payment has been received.

Families

At this point our accommodation consists of one bedroom apartments. We have 2 units with a sleeper couch in them or with the option of adding 2 single beds to make a family room. Alternatively, we have a 2 bedroom apartment available at the Saint Isidore Mews, which is offsite from Kings Grant but on the farm.

Connectivity

We are tucked away at the bottom of a valley and are surrounded by farmlands and hills. Cell phone network can be intermittent because of this. We have satellite wifi in all the rooms and in the restaurant area.

Power Cuts

We have a generator that powers the restaurant and reception during power cuts; however the rooms are without electricity during a power cut. We provide our guests with battery powered lighting in such events. Our rooms include an electric blanket, a heater and a fan. Room 3, 6, 13 and 14 have a fire place.
